Stellenbosch, Franschhoek and Paarl are known for their exceptional winelands and gastronomy – we have curated a special tour via the back roads through spectacular scenery to local speciality tastes and experiences.

ITINERARY

DAY 1 – Overnight in Stellenbosch

09:00 - Our first port of call is the magnificent Morgenster Estate, home to Italian style wines and olive oil. We’ll take a short walk down an oak-lined lane next to the Lourens River to see the historic manor house built in 1786. Morgenster was originally part of Vergelegen. At the beautifully appointed tasting room we’ll have a tutored tasting of the produce from the farm.
We’ll meander on to Stellenbosch for a Boland inspired lunch at one of the most interesting vineyards in the winelands – prepare to be delighted by the gardens, art, wine, food and views.
After lunch we’ll check into our B&B in Stellenbosch and then take a walk through the historical heart of Stellenbosch. We’ll visit food and beer artisans and shop for our light dinner.

DAY 2 – Overnight in Stellenbosch

08:30 - We depart our B&B for a drive to Jonkershoek Nature Reserve where we’ll see the wonders of this beautiful conservation area. Optional tour by electric scooter (R600pp). Breathe in the fresh country air as you traverse dirt paths and downhill slopes. The spectacular scenery along the way is all the more invigorating, fuelled by adrenaline.
We’ll pop into Oude Nektar, one of the oldest farms in the area, and stroll through the magnificent gardens and then settle down at The Postcard on the Conde Starke Estate, for lunch.
Optional Extra - Decadent Delights Tasting at Van Rhyn’s Brandy Distillery (R120pp).
This evening we will enjoy local theatre and dinner at Amazink in Kayamandi or live music in town. Stellenbosch has a vibrant arts and culture side and we will make the best of whichever seasonal offering is on show.

DAY 3 – Overnight in Franschhoek

After breakfast we check out of our B&B and head over Helshoogte to Tokara where we’ll have a walk through the olive orchards and soak up the spectacular scenery and art before enjoying a special tasting.
Just over the road we pop into Graff Delaire Estate with its magnificent views, Dylan Lewis sculptures, incredible art collection and a wine tasting on the terrace.
We head down the hill to the tiny village of Pniel where we’ll visit the church and museum and hear some interesting stories about this fascinating little community whilst having lunch.
After lunch we’ll check into our accommodation in Franschhoek and then take a walk through the picturesque town, stopping here and there to taste the local artisanal and farm fare.
Dinner at one of Franschhoek’s famous restaurants. Le Petit Colombe, Foliage, Protégé, Reubens or one of many others…

DAY 4 – Overnight in Franschhoek

After breakfast we’ll take a drive to Babylonstoren, Paarl. The garden at the farm is world renowned, inspired by the historic Company’s Garden in Cape Town and linking back to the mythological hanging gardens of Babylon. We’ll have a guided tour of the garden and end the morning with lunch and a wine tasting in the Spice Room.
After lunch we meander back to Franschhoek via a nougat and MCC tasting at Antonij Rupert Wines. An optional fine brandy tasting is a good way to end the day at La Bourgogne (R150pp).
Dinner at leisure.

DAY 5 – Home

After breakfast we’ll learn how the famous Franschhoek smoked salmon trout are cold and hot smoked and finish our tantalizing tour with a tasting of this delicacy.
