ITINERARY
DAY 1 – Overnight at Klaasvoogds West
Our first stop is Kleinhoekskloof Estate, off the beaten track at the foot of the Langeberg Mountains near Ashton in a spectacular setting. The owner of this wine and olive estate, Theunis de Jongh, makes his own artisanal charcuterie. Theunis will show us around and give us a tasting of all the farm produce and then we’ll immerse ourselves in a delicious charcuterie lunch and home baked bread and preserves.
We’ll check into our guest house and go for a walk through the most amazing cactus garden before going for a wine tasting at a nearby estate.
Dinner at the delightful Mo & Rose restaurant.
DAY 2 – Overnight at Klaasvoogds West
Enjoy a delicious farm breakfast before we head to the farm Vredelus, tucked away in the Klaasvoogd West Valley, in the foothills of the Langeberg. The farm is blessed with pure mountain water, two rivers, very fertile soil and wonderful mountain views. It is also home of Exdiem wines and olives which we will taste in the quaint old tasting room.
On our way out of the Klaasvoogds Valley we’ll pop into Owl’s Rest Lavender and Olive Farm, and savour the beautiful smells and delicious flavours conjured up in this little piece of paradise.
At Marbrin Olive Farm, Briony, Pieter and Clive have established a most welcoming tasting room where we’ll taste their produce and enjoy a lively chat about olives, pizzas, dogs and children. In the afternoon we’ll take a leisurely cruise on the Breede River at Viljoensdrift (R90 for the cruise) and enjoy a picnic made from delicious farm deli snacks bought at their tasting room.
Optional dinner in Robertson.
DAY 3 – Home
Bid farewell to the lovely Breede River Valley after breakfast and meander our way past Ashton and take the road towards Swellendam. We’ll stop art Mardouw to taste some of the finest extra virgin olive oil in the country and soak up the natural beauty of this farm.
From there it is a short hop to Jan Harmsgat Country House where we’ll enjoy a picnic in the shade of Pecan trees or lunch indoors in the 1777 old manor house.
After lunch we’ll meander home, replete and ready for the next Taste Tour with Sunswept Tours.
